The Nursing Skills Laboratory Coordinator ensures that the nursing skills laboratories have required equipment, supplies, and contracts to meet faculty and student needs. The Nursing Skills Laboratory Coordinator also coordinates laboratory schedules and events, collaborates with faculty to maximize student experiences, and functions as an experiential learning team resource across both Chalon and Doheny campuses for the nursing department and students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Acts as part of the Experiential Learning Team
Develops and maintains relationships with vendors who supply equipment to meet the standards of the nursing community
Projects, orders, and maintains equipment and supplies needed from vendors using the current course syllabi
Receives, reviews, and forwards to the Assistant to the Dean and Director for Experiential Learning all invoices from vendors
Frequently communicates with faculty to upgrade contents of student nursing skills bags and supplies
Discusses and investigates new equipment/technologies that can be incorporated into the curriculum
Trains and assists faculty in use of new equipment to ensure a safe skills laboratory environment using evidenced-based practice and measures current in nursing community
Acts in the laboratory environment using evidenced-based practice and measures current within the nursing community
Maintains an orderly, clean, safe workspace and organization of supply storage areas
Coordinates and maintains lab scheduling while providing clear communication of nursing skills laboratory courses and open lab times
Aids faculty to provide education and remediation to students of all levels of pre licensure nursing programs when requested
Serves as a faculty resource to facilitate nursing skills laboratory experiences for specialty areas
Conducts Open Lab Sessions for all nursing students to practice any skill of their choosing
Participates in all Skills Day preparation, delivery, and take down.
Observes, evaluates, and identifies needs for various nursing skills laboratory experiences to enhance students' learning
Works with faculty to implement skills sessions
Collaborates with faculty from other disciplines to facilitate interdisciplinary simulation
Participates in the simulation laboratory development, implementation, and delivery of the simulation activities
Informs Dean and Director of Experiential Learning of special laboratory needs and/or requests.
Participates in Fit-testing of students and or faculty.
Participates in policy/procedure or Standard Operating Procedure development.
Uses skills and simulation related software and programs to track, schedule, report, and communicate skills related activities.
Coordinates laundry cleaning and delivery
Performs yearly inventory
Ensures proper medical waste disposal
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Willing to be flexible and work days, evenings, and weekends.
Attends faculty meetings as required or requested.
Participates in committee work of the department as requested.
Other duties as proper and assigned
Must have knowledge of or be very motivated to learn the various nursing skills courses and understand the purpose of and safety associated with each skill.
Must be knowledgeable of or be very motivated to learn about evidenced-base practice, equipment, and supplies used in the Nursing Skills Laboratory for student learning.
Must have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Abilities and Skills:
Must be organized, able to communicate well both written and verbally, and problem-solve efficiently.
Hold a high, positive regard for student learning.
High School Diploma required
EMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, LVN, or related healthcare certificate required
Registered nurse (RN) preferred
Has worked at least one (1) year or more in a health care related position.
Licensure or certification (licensure within state of CA) within the field, is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
Holds a current active, applicable license or certificate in California.
Work Location: Both Campus Locations (West Los Angeles and Downtown Los Angeles)
