The Pathology Assistant Program, Department of Diagnostic and Health Sciences, College of Health Professions at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) seeks candidates for the Founding Director of the Pathologist Assistant Program who are committed to innovative teaching, robust research/creative activity and meaningful service. We also seek to attract a culturally and academically diverse faculty who value working with a diverse student body. We invite applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track, full-time position (assistant/associate professor; rank to be commensurate with education and credentials) to contribute to UTHSC's teaching, research, and service missions.
The Department seeks a dynamic and visionary program leader with a passion for teaching excellence, learning, and innovation who will be responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing the development and implementation of a Master's degree in Pathologist Assistant Studies that meets the needs of the State of Tennessee and the accrediting agency.
The Program Director is responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, fiscal management, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the program; and participation in the accreditation process of the Pathologist Assistant Program. This includes applying for, achieving, and maintaining NAACLS accreditation. Duties include identifying appropriate clinical sites, maintaining accreditation standards, interacting with the laboratory directors, principal and instructional faculty and staff in all activities that directly relate to the program and providing effective leadership and management to all aspects of the program for daily operation.
The candidate is expected to develop and maintain a productive research program that is aligned with the goals of the Department and the College.
- Applicants must be a graduate of a NAACLS-accredited (AAPA approved prior to 1995) pathologists' assistant educational program with at least a Master's Degree.
- ASCP-BOC certification as a Pathologists' Assistant
- Demonstration of teaching experience at the College level.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical practice experience.
- Current knowledge and skill in the use of computer technology and educational learning management systems
- Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills including communication, problem solving, counseling, conflict management, and follow-through
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Active in professional activities
- Experience with online delivery
- Publication record and potential for obtaining extramural funding
