Under the direction of the Program Leader, Industrial/WorkerSafety, plans, implements, and coordinates safety programs requiringapplication of engineering principles and technology, to prevent or correctunsafe working conditions. Develops and implements strategies and systems topromote and facilitate industrial/worker safety programs as defined in Federal,state and local regulations and UT System policies SA0100, SA0400 and TOSHAstate plan. Performs occasional 24-hour EHS One Call technical/emergencysupport Provides cross-functional support to other EHS department disciplinesas needed. May provide industrial/workersafety support to the UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), College of VeterinaryMedicine (CVM), UT Space Institute (UTSI), and Graduate School of Medicine(GSM/UTMCK) per memorandums of service support agreements. Supervises 1-3industrial/worker safety personnel and 1-2 student employees.
Responsibilities include the following:
Develop, recommend and implement programs,policies, and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement,evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards.
Develop data collection methods for use inassessing program effectiveness and gaps. (Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Prepare progress reports for senior managersand the Safety Committee on industrial/worker safety programsimplementation.
Set priorities for industrial/worker safetyprogram activities/initiatives.
Review and provide updates to Training Development& Communications Manager for occupational safety & health web pages.
Perform comprehensive safety and healthinspections, surveys, and audits.
Performs accident/incident assessments, preparereports and promote lessons learned.
Conduct and/or direct testing of air quality,noise, temperature, ventilation and other health & safety factors to verifycompliance with health & safety regulations.
Identify design issues related to facilities,processes, equipment, and work stations. Recommend design solutions to thehazardous conditions in terms of available technology and compliance withregulations.
Develop and implement effective training programsto minimize the impact of workplace hazards.
Prepare job hazard analyses (JHAs).
