Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This scientist will carry out experiments, demonstrations, field days, and other research activities in collaboration with MAFES, USDA, and industry scientists. The scientist will also be expected to seek funding to support his or her program, partner with colleagues in grant and contract proposals seeking funding to support applied research and outreach efforts. Scholarly efforts are expected to be published in refereed/peer reviewed journal articles.
This scientist will actively participate in professional societies/organizations as well as appropriate CMREC, MSU-ES, and MAFES committees and commodity groups. These activities should include involvement in coordinating vegetable production research goals/objectives through collaborative "team" efforts with research scientists. The scientist will have an active voice and display leadership in professional organizations and committees. The successful candidate must apply for a CRIS project within four months of hire.
Earned Ph.D. in Horticulture or related field. Experience in vegetable production and developing applied research, including seeking extramural funding is essential. Applicant must have excellent written and oral communication skills. This position will be housed at the Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. Students who are ABD will be considered.

Excellent organizational and leadership skills are important. Candidates with a minimum of five years research experience in horticulture or agronomy with knowledge of vegetable crops will be preferred. Experience in activities demonstrating the ability to work in research teams with commercial specialty crop growers is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A successful researcher in this field will utilize an array of modern research tools and approaches including, plant physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genomics, metabolomics, and production systems biology, or any related combination of approaches to analyze the biology of vegetables. Consequently, the ability to work comfortably in collaborative and multidisciplinary teams will enhance the potential for success in this position.
