Assistant Dean - Finance And Administration, College of Health Professions - 21000000JD
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center seeks applications for an Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration in the College of Health Professions. The Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration works with the Dean to develop and coordinate the day-to-day operational, human resources, facilities, communications and internal relations, information management and technology, and budgetary and financial management of the College. This position functions as a key member of the Dean's management team and acts as the Dean's representative within the College in relation to these functions.
Primary responsibilities of the position are as follows:
Administers and manages the budget for the College of Health Professions departments and divisions.
Interpret and disseminate university-wide policies and guidelines for administrative and budget development activities. Attend business manager's meetings (College and University-wide).
Manage the College of Health Professions human resources functions, including job descriptions and posting, employee relations, compliance, leaves of absence, and other personnel administrative functions. Assist departments in ensuring they are properly staffed. Implement and monitor the performance appraisal program consistent with university policy and procedures.
Assist pre-award staff with grant proposal budget preparation, review and approval.
Supervise post-award grants and sub-award contracts management, including effort allocation and fund expense monitoring.
Answer, interpret and adjudicate fiscal questions presented by the department chairs
Supervise and manage staff who report to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration and the Dean's Office.
Partner with College of Health Profession senior leadership to identify and execute actions that drive profitable growth and capture market share; improve operational efficiencies and increase productivity within the budget process.
In consultation with department chairs, direct administrative support staff and participate in their reviews. Preside over regular office staff meetings.
Maintain confidential faculty records and all other required documentation for faculty as required by the University.
Act as the college liaison to various University departments (e.g., Finance, Sponsored Programs, Human Resources, Facilities, Information Technology, Foundation, Planning, and Operations).
Develop and implement appropriate training and professional development opportunities to meet individual and organizational needs.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Dean.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business or closely related area
Eight years of progressive experience in a university setting that includes administration, program management, or human resources responsibilities
Previous supervisory experience
Master's or Doctoral degree in business or related area
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Working experience with financial information management platforms (i.e., IRIS/SAP; Banner Finance; Jenzabar One) in addition to working experience with Oracle or relatable platform
SKILLS: Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to multi-task. Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities to meet deadlines. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, students, supervisors, administrators, customers, and visitors. Experience with automated spreadsheets, financial databases, and a high level of analytical skills. Proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook). Ability to develop and present financial data and analysis. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects that require demonstrated leadership ability. Ability to interact with individuals of diverse cultures, religions, and languages. Ability to maintain sensitive, confidential, and personal issues and ethical quandaries.
